Pathological aging
Professor Alberto Fernández holds a PhD in Psychology and has been a Full Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, and Pathology at the UCM since 2009. He previously held other teaching positions at the same institution, as well as advisory positions in the Research Promotion Area at the UCM General Foundation. Professor Fernández is a pioneer in Spain in the use of Magnetoencephalography (MEG) in clinical and research settings. He initially worked at the Dr. Pérez Modrego Magnetoencephalography Center at the UCM, where he served as Deputy Director from 2006 to 2010. This center was the first Spanish laboratory to use this technology. It was considered one of the world leaders in the application of MEG technology to the study of dementia and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Since 2010, Professor Fernández has been Director/Manager of the «Cognitive Neuroscience» Research Group at the Moncloa International Campus of Excellence. He conducts his research at the UPM/UCM Laboratory of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, focusing on the application of MEG to the diagnosis and monitoring of dementias, especially AD.
