Memory and cognition

Javier Pacios is an Associate Professor in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He holds a degree in Psychology and postgraduate training in Clinical Neuropsychology, and obtained his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience, focusing his research on the mechanisms of resistance to interference in working memory. His main research interest focuses on understanding the cognitive and neural foundations of cognitive control, with a particular focus on the inhibitory mechanisms that allow us to control our own memory, either by actively protecting it from external influences or by regulating the impact of unwanted thoughts and memories. To address these questions, he uses behavioural and electrophysiological measures (MEG and EEG), combined with neurostimulation protocols, as well as neuropsychological and clinical variables.
